An evening of guilt free G and Tea cocktails with We Are Tea

Ethical and sustainable tea company We Are Tea hosted a night of G and Tea cocktails, tea-infused treats and biodegradable, botanical goodness at The Soho Collective. Perfect on a balmy London evening, just before the official change from Summer to Autumn, tea lovers from across London enjoyed tea-infused tipples and tasty morsels while talking to the passionate people of We Are Tea about their teas, company ethos, and exciting plans for the future.

Whether you’re a traditional tea drinker or looking for something a bit more exotic, such as Dragon Well, White Peony or Jasmine Silver Needle, there was a range of real teas to drink as well as some tasty cocktails.

We Are Tea explained to LDN Life that they source and sell high-quality teas in a sustainable, supportive way, from the best tea estates worldwide. While they sell a variety of top-notch loose leaf teas, they also provide eco-friendly tea bags, for convenience with a conscience. We Are Tea was one of the first tea companies to remove paper tags from their biodegradable tea bags, which are made from corn starch. The company plans to go completely plastic free in 2018, and they also launched their new tea infuser to make it easier for proper tea lovers to enjoy their loose leaf teas.

Their story is an interesting one, having started in 2007 at a tea shop near St Paul’s and then being forced to close following vandalism as a result of the Occupy London movement. Resilient founders and genuine tea lovers Spence and Suze were not deterred from their mission and rose again to stock their teas online and they are now available at a number of supermarkets and high street stockists.

It was difficult to choose between the refreshing G and Tea Cocktails: Natural Elegance – a soothing mix of chamomile tea, Rockrose Gin, Sherry, Orange Bitters; Silver Lady.

A sultry sip of Jasmine Silver Needle tea, Rockrose Gin, Egg White and lemon juice; or our reviewer’s favourite, Early Days – a refreshing blend of Cold Brew Earl Grey, Superberry Cordial, Jasmine Silver Needle Gin, and lemon juice. The perfect combination of fruit, tea, and alcohol for a summery evening!

Another unique form of refreshment was available as tea spheres, which were basically versions of the G and T cocktails in bite-sized portions, in the form of an exploding edible bubble. Jelly shots? So passé.

We are tea

In a delightfully green way to end the evening, each guest was presented with a tea-shaped iced biscuit to represent the tree planted for every guest. That’s right – one tea, one tree. 63 trees were planted after the event, so we can all feel a bit better about enjoying that cuppa or cocktail – or two…
