Pomona’s – new-look summer terrace and cocktail and oyster bar
Pomona’s, found in the cozy streets of Notting Hill, is a restaurant and cocktail bar complete with a summer terrace.
Newly updated, the terrace offers a tranquil retreat, perfectly suited to the cocktails and oysters that were being debuted on Thursday night.
A small collection of neatly packed tables under a stylish trestle, featuring heaters for those cool summer evenings, provides an inviting atmosphere – be prepared to get to know your neighbours.
Thankfully the weather held for their launch event, and with the terrace full there was a buzz about the place. The oysters were served with mignonette sauce and classic Tabasco was scrumptious and what better way to wash them down than some gin cocktails.
Martin Miller’s was the gin of choice and it proved to be zingy and refreshing. The classic G&T with elderflower tonic, strawberries and pepper packed a punch, while the South Side proved to be the perfect way to round off some nibbles, with its sugary minty flavours. A personal favourite was the Gin & Ginger (pictured), with the gin paired smoothly with a ginger beer tonic.
Throughout the evening we have treated to tasters from their new, Californian inspired, menu. With Pomona being the Greek God of orchards, the vibe they are going for is healthy and garden-fresh with a hint of California thrown in.
One highlight, shown in the photo, was the taster version of the Welsh Lamb Rump, Garden Peas, Pea Shoots, Goat Curd, Mint Jus. The bite-sized versions of the full plates delivered flavour and a freshness using sustainable ingredients that are locally sourced. From this showing, the full menu is a mouth-watering prospect.
Venturing inside, Pomona’s is spacious with a brightly coloured décor that even extends to the toilets. The fully loaded cocktail bar was inviting, catering for all tastes, and all the staff were knowledgeable and friendly.
If you are looking for somewhere to spend a few hours on a warm evening or at the weekend (maybe with some cocktails and oysters), get down to the terrace at Pomona’s.
