Leadenhall Market, one of London’s oldest and most beautiful marketplaces, has reopened this week to celebrate Christmas in the heart of the City of London. To mark the holiday season, the airy and covered Leadenhall Market will be transformed from next week (Monday 7th December), with a festive snowflake projection and indoor snow installation, making it the perfect destination for shopping and socially distanced dining in the run up to Christmas.

Leadenhall Market is home to 35 boutique retailers, bars, restaurants and cafes. From fine-dining experiences to family friendly restaurants, wine-bars and an award-winning pub, the Market has a range of options for friends, families, and work colleagues to celebrate together, whilst also providing an opportunity for Christmas shopping.

Located in the centre of the Square Mile, shoppers can choose from luxury brands including Barbour, Reiss and Diptyque and find unique gifts from boutique retailers such as: specialist drinks from Amathus, pastries from speciality French bakery Aux Merveilleux De Fred, a selection of over one hundred artisan British and European cheeses from Cheese Leadenhall, watches and jewellery from family-owned Beau Gems and seasonal floral gifts from Windsor Flowers.

The iconic architecture of Leadenhall’s Victorian wrought iron and glass Market provides a spacious setting for Christmas shopping and enjoying a festive drink with a meal. The inspiration for the Harry Potter Films’ Diagon Alley, visitors may recognise the entrance to wizard’s pub, the Leaky Cauldron, in Bull’s Head Passage.

The snowflake projection will be active from 7th – 23rd December, with snow falling from 7th-10th, 14th – 18th and 21st -23rd December.

Chair of the Property Investment Board at the City of London Corporation, Tom Sleigh, said: “Leadenhall Market’s stunning architecture and beautiful painted roof make it a wonderful destination year-round for residents, workers and visitors alike – but it really comes alive at Christmas. With its unique surroundings enhanced by the magic of indoor snow and festive light projections, Leadenhall Market provides a safe, open air setting for Christmas shopping and dining. We are looking forward to welcoming back visitors to this world-class retail and hospitality hotspot and supporting our businesses through the new Tier Two restrictions.”

The City of London Corporation, which owns and manages Leadenhall Market, recently offered business support to Leadenhall Market tenants by offering a turnover rent model to help businesses manage cashflow and build back better.
