BackDoor Salon Aperitivo Review
This is the third time BackDoor Kitchen have featured this month, firstly with our BackDoor Salon Preview and then our interview with the guys, so it would be rude not to feature a review right? With the London Life team fully booked up for weeks in advanced, we thought we wouldn’t be able to, but thankfully Hungry Female came to the rescue with this little aperitivo review.
This summer is all about the return of the bitter cocktail. And when coupled with an Italian aperitivo, it’s quite simply La Dolce Vita. Romans Roberto Cenciarelli and Fabio Forin are bringing Italy to Market Row in Brixton with their weekend pop-ups in July and early August.
Sponsored by Aperol Spritz and Campari, the BackDoor Kitchen supperclub team provide a selection of cicchetti to complement the 3pm cocktail hour. I adored the Octopus and Mint, devoured the perfectly cooked Garlic Prawns and anyone else was lucky to even catch sight of the smoky and salty Salmon, Provolone and Herb Marinated Courgette. Other offerings were their signature BackDoor Arancini filled with egg, n’duja and plush risotto and a surprise dish of Mussels and Mushrooms in a soupy and earthy broth. Biltong and Tonnato, was a fabulous invention and much appreciated by my South African companions.
We spent the rest of the afternoon sipping Aperol Spritz, Negronis and other delicious and original cocktails conjured up by these talented chefs, in an elevated, sweltering bar overlooking Market Row. This is how you should be spending your summer, enjoying fabulous Italian food in the company of friends and the ever charming hosts. Salute!
The Aperitivo Hour at the BackDoor Salon pop-up costs only £15 and entitles you to a surprise selection of cicchetti and a welcome cocktail. You can then order a la carte for some even more exciting dishes and may even get some specials at the chef’s discretion. Thoroughly recommended.
