14 chefs, 8 nights, 2 teams a night and only 1 chance to try food from two different countries. This is The Flavour Expats, they are amongst us, they look exactly like us, you might even work next to them, but at night they sneak in through the backdoor and make some of the most interesting food London has tasted.
The Flavour Expats are made up of the Italian masters Backdoor Kitchen, French food artists Gastronhome, The Hungry Hakka, The Picked Fork, Tacocho, The Candlestick maker, Bunta BBQ, 7th Floor Supperclub, Pepe’s Kitchen and last but certainly not least Two Hungry Girls.
The chef behind popular Backdoor Kitchen Italian supperclub, Rob Cenciarelli, has gathered together some of the most inventive underground chefs in the scene and brought them to Hackney based Palm2 open plan kitchen. Eastern cuisines of the world will face Western chefs over a 6 courses menu inspired by their respective national culinary identities.
The ultimate food challenge has been set: The quest which they have chosen to except is to create new recipes, taking on their food memories and forgotten classic to bring back from their gastronomic heritage. You the diners will also get a secret dessert which we are told will take the chefs adversary by surprise.
£35pp will get you 6 courses and a glass of Prosecco at arrival.
London Life UK were invited to sample not only the food, but also get a real taste for the concept , Backdoor Kitchen of course were there, as were Yummychoo Eats, Tacochu, Pepe’s Kitchen, The Pickled Fork, The Candlestick Maker. We loved loved all of the food on show and our opinion if you live within an hour of Hackney then this Pop Up Supperclub series could be amongst the best yet. But if we had to single any out our favourites on the night were: Yummychoo Eats trevally pieces and dhal, The Pickled Fork’s Kangaroo Pie which actually made us jump up for more, while the weird yet wonderful spice poached pears with a vanilla shard by The Candlestick Maker sent our taste buds into a frenzy.
Also this is a BYOB event. All guests are kindly invited to try some of the beautiful bottles at Palm2 shop, which is just downstairs. Price we are told are very reasonable and you will also help a local business!
So pick your side, book your ticket and join them at Palm2, the destiny of world cuisine they say “is up your fork!”, as this is one foodie experience you won’t want to miss.
