Watch the Oxford vs Cambridge boat race in style at Thai Square Putney Bridge

It’s that time of year again where even the slightest hint of sun gets us all slightly delirious and we all start to gravitate towards parks and the River Thames. You could say that the Oxford vs Cambridge boat race unofficially marks the beginning of the silly season.

Every year thousands of spectators line the banks of the River Thames from Putney to Mortlake to cheer on the competing rowing crews from Oxford and Cambridge universities. But what do you do if you want to watch in style and take it nice and easy?

Thai Square Putney Bridge thinks it has the answer and after visiting their restaurant in Trafalgar Square last week (review coming soon), and looking at the view on offer, I’m inclined to agree.

Already blessed with having arguably one of the best restaurant views in the UK, on Saturday 24th March it certainly does. Simply pick a side, sit back and cheer on the rowers as one of the world’s oldest and most popular free sporting events unfolds.

Those lucky enough to get a table can enjoy fine dining in the second-floor restaurant, complete with live broadcasts of the action. But the action doesn’t stop when the racing does; as there will be live music and resident DJs rocking the ground floor bar until 2am!

If you want to be even closer to the action, and watch the race kick-off on the riverbank, Thai Square will be serving up some of their favourites, including vegetarian and duck
spring rolls, chicken satay, stir-fried noodles and chicken green curry will be served
outside, starting from a bargain price of just £1, plus Thai beers and a range of
other drinks.
