The King of Ladies Man – Battersea Rise – No 5 & 6 of 500 Drinks of Summers

This is how The King of Ladies Man describes itself on Twitter:  “Lock up your daughters, The King of Ladies Man has brought beer, cheese and disco drinks to Battersea Rise.” thankfully I don’t have a daughter, so I didn’t have to lock anyone up and I didn’t tell my dad I was going, not that I think he’d actually lock me up anyway. Sadly I didn’t try the cheese, but if by cheese they meant the decor, then I did.

In brief: Thankfully the Breakfast Club’s speakeasy bar is easier to get into than the restaurant itself, although the door directly off Battersea Rise means it’s hardly a secret spot. Inside, washing machines, vintage Playboy magazines and flamingo wallpaper are all part of the bar’s 70s vibe. And its nooks and crannies make for an intimate atmosphere on a Saturday night.

Our order: We’d popped in for a quick one before a dinner reservation and managed to secure a table. I went for a Gumball Gimlet (gin, spiced grenadine and lime), which was ok for £5. There’s an extensive cocktail list should you wish to part with a few more pounds. James went for a Bellerose blonde beer at 8.5%. Luckily, it was only 33cl!
