The Grift, an immersive part game, part theatre, part optional dinner experience will première on Tuesday 23rd January, in the historic Town Hall Hotel in London’s Bethnal Green.
This latest twist on the immersive theme runs from Tuesday 23 January to Sunday 25 March
As far as theatre goes, it’s pretty exclusive with only 50 people per show, and participants will be dropped right in the middle of an adventure where they will be trained in the art of the con. Guests will meet characters, solve clues, have a masterclass from the ultimate grifter and be trained to pull off one final swindle – to take down a renowned criminal mastermind. Bonus points: by the end of the show, you should be all set to make through London rush hour, or blag your way home.
The evening will test your intelligence with scams like: The Pig In The Poke, The Round-The Corner, and The Money Swap. Not a scam is the included cocktail, but of course, there’s a con that takes place in the bar, so watch out. The evening culminates with the ultimate challenge – to take down an evil genius at his own game. Apparently, all will be revealed on the night! Though what happens if you fail, now that I do not know.
Alongside the live experience, The Grift-goers are invited to dine at The Corner Room (for a premium) where you can dine on dishes including Vacherin fondue, grilled cabbages & trompettes, slow-cooked venison shoulder, Delica pumpkin & nuts and for a dessert, a warm chocolate mousse with hazelnut ice cream. While I normally groan at attempts to eke out even more cash, this actually fits the evening really well and the menu sounds pretty damn good, especially if you’re taking that special someone.
Writer-director Tom Salamon said: “I’m thrilled to be returning to the ‘seen-it- all’ sophisticated audiences of London, they’re up for anything and love to get involved and play along and I think we’re giving them something entirely unique that they haven’t experienced before.”
