Gin. No longer is it the tipple for the Pat Butcher’s of the world. Now it’s as fashionable as vintage granddad sweaters and leather brogues, especially if you’re in the Shoreditch-Hackney vicinity.
Like good coffee and a well hopped craft beer, a good gin with the right garnish is just a damn fine thing.
Tanqueray, a reliable gin that I’m sure we are all familiar with, is creating a string of pop-up events which is part of their #TanquerayThursdays series that will be featuring in various locations across London. Tanqueray Drawing Rooms is just one of the pop up events that took place on the 13th and 14th of November in the hidden gem of Fitzroy Square.
In short it was definitely one of the better events I have been to. Tanqueray Drawing Rooms had a clear vision of recreating Gatsby style glamour drawing on the historical and unique features of the Georgian townhouse. The drinks were made to match the style and sophistication; elegant cocktails, gin laced twists on the classics, looked delicate but were deliciously lethal concoctions created by world class bartenders. The event was an excellent showcase of a gin which is sometimes overlooked and left on bartender’s shelves for trendier local gin distilleries.
Complimenting the drinks and canapés were stalls making vintage headpieces (think sweat band with peacock feathers attached) and stylish (slightly expensive, hipster-ish) accessories from Monsieur London. After about six cocktails I was convinced that buying two very beautiful ties for my boyfriend for over £75 was a bargain. My boyfriend was very happy the next day; I had a hangover.
A thoroughly enjoyable evening; if the remaining Tanqueray events are as good as my gintastic night with Tanqueray titillation then I highly recommend going. I shall definitely be watching out for another Tanqueray Thursday event, provided it isn’t in the depths of East London which is only accessible by London Overground.
Events will be running till 11th December and will include exciting events such as Forza Winter and crazy golf in Shoreditch. Swap your mulled wine with some gin and don’t miss out.
