If you want to escape the big city and see what the suburbs have to offer, then the Surbiton Food Festival could be for you. Traveling less than 20 minutes on the fast train from Waterloo will transport you into a world of weird and wonderful with over 25 events over 2 weeks.
6th May brings back the legendary Freshwater Sardine Festival with giant guinea pigs, folk music and much more.
Some of the other events like The Surbiton Farmers Market, Vegan Dinner, Gin tasting masterclass and a Chef’s table at the well-renowned No 97 bring things nicely back to earth.
The “How haven’t they got a Michelin Star yet?” French Table has a Californian Wine Dinner and Cheese and Wine tasting evening for those with sophisticated pallets.
Ever wondered what Icelandic Cheese and Skyr tasted like? Well, an evening with Eirný Sigurðardóttir will put you straight. This self-confessed ‘curd nurd’ is offering people the chance to eat cheese that you simply can’t buy in the UK.
The Surbiton Village Fête and Dry Hopped Beer Festival is one I’m particularly excited about. With some interesting collaborations in the works, on the beer front (so I’m told) Plus “24 Hour Podcast People” will be raising money for Creative Youth.
There’s much more, with stuff for kids, adults and even dogs. So head to their Facebook page and see the full list of events.
