Skylounge Winter Viking Bar

Londoners are suckers for a theme and a good view and since I include myself in that statement, when I heard about the a Valhalla Vodka Bar at the Skylounge, (a rooftop bar atop the DoubleTree Hilton in Tower Hill) I did what any self-respecting blogger would do and did some digging. Especially as I like the idea of a winter theme rather than the constant bombardment of Christmas everything. Don’t get me wrong I love Christmas, but in moderation too much and I get a bit Bah Humbug.  Skylounge-Nordic-terrace-press-launch-01

So what did I learn, well their plan is to create a cosy, winter residency on their outdoor terrace, which overlooks Tower Bridge, The Shard and The Gherkin.

It offers guests a relaxing atmosphere, vodka cocktails and Scandinavian style food, so not great if you’re after a Nordic rave. Thankfully they’ve also given the place a winter overhaul, including weatherproof roofing, heaters and sheepskin throws for those who can’t handle the chill. Throw in some “Traditional Viking belongings”, animal skins, and even views of the fjords and you’re getting close to a winter roof top heaven, which since Valhalla directly translates in to ‘heaven’ in Viking tongue is a good thing.

Drinks wise they have, warming mugs of mulled wine, glasses of hot apple cider served in an urn. Of course you’ll also get bespoke winter cocktails, complete with authentic Viking names, which have been developed by Snow Queen Vodka.

You can choose between Glapsvidr, Ginnarr or Hrafnass, try saying these names after few drinks (Actually it might be easier) The food offerings apparently hearty, wholesome and meat related heaven, which roughly translates into marinated meats, hunks of artisan bread and cheeses sourced from Scandinavia.

Sadly rumours of free Viking ship trips on the Thames are unfounded but still if Vodka, unpronounceable cocktails names, good views, meat and a Viking theme sounds like fun then you should probably check it out. I’m hoping to before Christmas so I’ll update with my thoughts.

Open Wednesday to Sunday, 4:30pm until late
