If like me you’re trying to avoid the over crowded gyms, the continuing high street sales and Easter goods popping up everywhere in bloody January or just fancy an excuse to get out on a Tuesday in January, then the possibility of a free beer might just motivate you. Unless you’re taking part in a Dryathlon, in which case we are sorry, look away now!!
Landing in London for the first time, Budvar Tank Beer, or Budvar Tankové Pivo as the locals in the Czech Republic call it, is heading to Zigfrid von Underbelly, Hoxton Square, which I often find myself in when I’m in that neck of the woods. The Budvar Tank Tuesday Parties are taking place on 13th, 20th, 27th January & 3rd February and here’s the free bit, the first 100 through the door from 6pm can enjoy a pint on them to see what it’s all about. You’ll also get to check out London’s smallest art gallery by acclaimed street art photographer, Claude Crommelin and music will be brought to your delicate post NYE ears by the cool sounding resident DJ Francois Dirty South.
Of course in London you don’t just launch something anymore, if it doesn’t Pop Up with something cool and thought provoking attached to it with years of heritage it’s normally an instant fail. Thankfully they seemed to have kept to this well trodden formula, as to celebrate the art of brewing and the arrival of the first Tankové Pivo in the UK, Budvar are blending their love and passion for beer with the creativity of Hoxton. This features work from street art photographer and local Hoxton resident Claude Crommelin, showcasing work from his extensive archive, exploring four different themes Classics, 3D, Shoreditch Icons and Hoxton Square. Expect the usual Shoreditch / Hoxton out of the box musings, mixing crazy and wonderful stencils, paste-ups, paintings and little sculptures. Claude has been capturing iconic images from London’s urban landscape since 2008. To think of it another way, you’ll get a chance to see what you might have missed right on your doorstep from one of the most vibrant street art scenes in the world.
For those who still want to know more about the beer itself and what Tankové Pivo Tanks are well I’ll have a go. This bad boy is matured for 90 days with apparently no shortcuts, which is the way the master brewer intended and is claimed that it’s the closest way to bring the brewery to you. Their secret is to it all is kept in a limited edition, custom-made Tankové Pivo Tanks, designed by Budvar in collaboration with Paul Daly, owner of Zigfrid von Underbelly. For those of you who don’t know who Paul is, Paul has been on the forefront of the artistic and social movement in Hoxton since the 1980’s, as a musician, artist and the brains behind multiple East London bars and venues. So we’re going to put our neck out on this one and say he know’s his stuff. pauldaly.com
