Borough Market Announces Return of Evening of Cheese and Live Christmas Events
Celebrate the festive season with the traders, chefs and food experts from London’s oldest Market

Festive feasting is one of the highlights of Christmas and where better to source the finest seasonal produce than London’s iconic Borough Market. The historic arches will be lit up and decked with beautiful decorations from 16th November, and from 1st December choirs and buskers will soundtrack shopping for the best meat, fish, fruit and veg, Christmas puddings, cakes, cheeses and wine for the festive table.

On 7th, 8th and 9th December a new, free three day pop up – Borough Market’s Festive Kitchen – will inspire and delight Londoners in the run up to Christmas. Guest chefs Angela Clutton, Ed Smith and Jenny Chandler will host cooking demonstrations and share festive food tips and tastings – all showcasing Borough Market independent traders’ array of seasonal produce including vegetarian and vegan dishes.

Borough Market’s popular annual tradition ‘An Evening of Cheese’ is back for 2021 as part of the world- famous produce market’s Christmas celebrations. Londoners and visitors looking for ideas for a unique Christmas cheeseboard can visit on Wednesday 15th December between 6-8pm for a chance to consult with Borough Market’s renowned cheesemongers and buy a wide range of cow, goat and sheep’s milk cheese from UK and International producers. The event will see cheese stalls spread across the Market with experts on hand to offer recommendations, advice on drinks pairings and delicious cheese recipes.

As the Market is now open on Sundays, shoppers can visit every day up until 3pm on Christmas Eve.

Throughout December, Borough Market Kitchen will be opening late on Thursdays, allowing visitors to journey around the world one bite at a time, with special delights alongside menu musts from the Market’s diverse street food traders, available until 9pm.

The Borough Market Kitchen will also be open between 10am and 5pm (Mon-Wednesday, Saturday) and 10am-6pm (Friday) and is located in Jubilee Place, the Market’s current wholesale area.

Kate Howell, Director of Communications and Engagement at Borough Market, said: “We’re excited to bring back Borough Market’s sparkle and cheer this Christmas. There’s no better place to be for seasonal, sustainable food and we hope our guest chefs and independent traders will encourage shoppers to get creative with their cooking and perhaps try something a little different for their festive table – including a wonderful cheeseboard which goes beyond the traditional choices. Our traders know the story of their produce – from meat and fish to nuts, fruit and vegetables – and are looking forward to sharing the secrets of the very best of Christmas food with our customers.”

About Borough Market
Borough Market is a source of quality British and international produce, but it is more than just a place to buy or sell food. It’s a place where people come to connect, to share food and awaken their senses. Borough has long been synonymous with food markets and as far back as 1014, and probably much earlier, London Bridge attracted traders selling grain, fish, vegetables and livestock. In the 13th century traders were relocated to what is now Borough High Street and a market has existed there ever since. Borough Market’s mission is to continue to provide a world class food market at Borough for the community of London and beyond. Borough Market is the only fully independent market in London. It is owned by a charitable trust and run by a board of volunteer trustees. The trust is committed to supporting the local community around Borough Market. We regularly run community events, free cookery demonstrations and we support local community projects and schemes.
