Borough Market announces Autumn/Winter line-up of events

Famous for bringing people together through a shared love of high-quality food, Borough Market has announced its Autumn/Winter line-up of Cookbook Club events and a special Christmas feature on its popular podcast, Borough Talks.

Kicking the Cookbook season off on 1 November, Cynthia Shanmugalingam will be discussing recipes featured in her debut cookbook, launched earlier this year; Rambutan. Combining her Sri Lankan heritage and experiences growing up in Britain, Cynthia’s cookbook has been hugely popular thanks to the vibrancy of her recipes and writing. Now, Cynthia will be bringing those flavours to London’s iconic Borough Market at her new restaurant, also titled Rambutan, which opened in October. Cookbook Club members are invited to enjoy an evening with Cynthia’s and hear how her Sri Lankan flavours will be making their way to tables in Stoney Street.

Taking place on Tuesday 1 November from 6.30-8.30pm, tickets are £12 plus a booking fee.

On 22 November, a trilogy of award-winning Borough Market food writers will be joining Cookbook Club members for a Market special. Ed Smith, of The Borough Market Cookbook, Mark Riddaway, of Edible Histories and Angela Clutton, Cookbook Club host and author of latest Borough Market book – The Knowledge, will be discussing how the Market and its seasonal produce has influenced their recipes and writing over the years.

The event takes place on Tuesday 22 November from 6.30-8.30pm, tickets are £12 plus a booking fee.

And finally, in the run-up to Christmas, Angela Clutton will be hosting a special Cookbook Club event to help members fully prepare for Christmas. Expect insider tips on seasonal treats from the Market’s traders, Christmas gift inspiration and festive recipes from her new book, Borough Market: The Knowledge.

Taking place on Wednesday 7 December from 5-7pm, tickets are free.

To round off the season’s events and bring the stallholders’ festive flavours straight to your home, the Market’s podcast – Borough Talks – will also be releasing a Christmas special featuring cookery writer, chef and sustainability champion, Melissa Hemsley and British celebrity chef Jeremy Lee. Melissa and Jeremy will join Borough Talks host Angela Clutton on a journey through the Market, meeting traders and sampling some of the unique, sustainable produce – while sharing with listeners their tips for the perfect Christmas feast and how to shop for it.

Available on Apple and Spotify, the podcast will be released on Thursday 8th December and can be found via the Borough Market website: https://boroughmarket.org.uk/borough-talks-podcast/

Borough Market’s Cookbook Club host, Angela Clutton said: ““This is such a beautiful – and delicious! – time of year at the Market. What a treat to be able to share thoughts of food and flavours, cooking and community with Borough Market newcomer, Cynthia Shanmugalingam, as well as old friends Ed and Mark. Plus chefs Melissa Hemsley and Jeremy Lee showing us how they shop  at the Market as the icing on our Christmas events cake.” ”

Borough Market’s Cookbook Club is organised and hosted by award-winning food writer Angela Clutton. The club is free to join and designed for anyone who loves good food, good cookery books and good company. Each event celebrates a selected cookery book and members are sent a couple of recipes in advance from the book to cook at home, which they then discuss with the group.

Kate Howell, Director of Communications and Engagement at Borough Market said: “Our Cookbook Club members are in for a treat this season, and it is such a joy to see the Borough Market cook books brought to life and discussed among  the wider Borough Market community. We’re also thrilled to have Melissa join us for our Christmas special for the podcast, giving those who may not be able to make it to us before the festive season, a chance to experience the Market at such a magical time, from afar.”
